MK5 Warranty Expiring this month....
« on: 02 September 2008, 13:40 »
Hi Guys, have done a search for this first, got 9 pages of results, but nothing that really answers my question……

My VW warranty expires at the end of this month and I have been consulting them regarding extending for another 12 months. They have quoted me £565 for unlimited mileage and all components, £512 for unlimited mileage and named components, or £352 for limited mileage (15’000) and named components.

Now is it just me or is that f’ing expensive??

Is it worth going with one of these? It would probably be the limited mileage for £352 as I only cover about 12’000 miles annually, or should I perhaps go for one of the ‘other’ warranty providers such as warranty direct? I have no experience of dealing with such companies and would be concerned that I’m not getting the same level of cover or service.

Any advice would be appreciated :undecided:

Thanks

Rich

A question I recently asked, search back on my posts mate. There were a lot of good answers.

In a nutshell its kind of up to you, you pays your money and takes your chances really. I asked the question has anyone actually benefitted significantly for the extra outlay...could just have been my luck at the time of posting but generally the response was NO.

Dont blame me if your DSG blows up mind you in the next 12 months! ;)

Warranty Direct gave me a price of £350, then I pushed and they moved to £320. I haven't taken up the option yet.
VW quoted £401 for up to 15000 miles I think..I wont do more than 10k/ but they dont let you pay instalments, so they were written off really.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

£352 equals less than £1 day. I think it might be worth it when put that way. Just my 2p worth. Of course it depends on what named components are.

I paid £200 for 2 years extended warranty when I purchased my GTI from the dealer.  Only reason I went for it was the price and the fact I wasn't keen on a big bill should the DSG screw up.  I've already had my moneys worth when the CV joint failed, should have been £198 for the parts and labour and it was paid for by the warranty.

So in my opinion it is worth it but some will disagree

I have not recieved my info pack yet with the details of what the 'named' components are, but based on the description from the woman at VWW it sounds like gearbox, main engine internals etc but excludes all perishable items like cv joints for example.

Mines a manual & a diesel so no worries with the expensive repair bills for the DSG.....
