MOT fail!
« on: 30 August 2008, 12:01 »
She failed the MOT yday on the following:

Offside front anti-roll bar linkage fractured.

Offside front (wishbone) bonded suspension unit bonding failed.

Nearside front macpherson strut has excessive movement at upper attachment - (top mount?).

Offside front macpherson strut has excessive movement at upper attachment.

My question is, how much of a job are they to do? I'm not a complete numpty so will be having a whirl tommoz. Anyone have any pearls of wisdom to share to make the job easier?

All commments welcome

Ta

Keri

top mounts are quite easy, but if you don't have the tools they can be a b!tch.    wishbone is fairly  straight forward, easyest way to put them back in ive found is,  put the rear somewhere near,  put the frount bush in with bolt as far through as will go,  then connect the hub put trolly jack under hub and lift till wishbone is level  then kick the brake calliper to put the rear bush in,     rember to buy new sleeve to refit with the old ones dont survive extraction,   also remberto remove said sleeve rorm rear bush before trying to remove otherwise it can be hard work
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Cheers Danny.

The tools that are needed in clued the spanner/socket to fit over the grooved nut and is there one to undoe the nut right at the top of the strut that is sunk into it. What sort of spanner would get at that?

spring compressors make life easier,   think you can buy a tool from gsf for taking out the sleeve nut thing,  otherwise you r into the game of making a tool  normally with the wheel wrench and an angel grinder or trashing a pair of needle nose pliers but taking the tension off with spring clamps really is a must for that way.

i was playing with my car yesterday and it came to stripping the top mounts off some mk2 struts i couldn't be arsed buggering about with the nut and used mk3 top mounts,  they are much easer but apparently make the car sit 10mm higher,  but that wasent really an issue at the time

Your car is so f*cking scene.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

in what way is my car scene ??  and similarity is purely accidental. and will be shortly recifyed by removing the wonky wheel's.

also don't you have to wash your car and stuff to be scene  or remove all the paint off the bonnet,   nether of these can i be arsed to do

Pah it's low enough to be f*cking scene.

The roof's so low now that I keep dropping my mug on it instead of putting it down whenever I walk into the workshop.

Your scene motor is responsible for endless split tea.
