Got myself a DNX 7200!
« on: 28 August 2008, 23:15 »
Nice unit - weighed up all the pro's and con's of seperate bluetooth, nav and ipod usability and this ticked all the boxes.
I'm trying to run the ipod wire to the armrest so I can make use of the slot - thats the only good thing about the standard VW prep.
Also, the blutooth unit is asking for a code to pair my phone - anyone know what this is?  :undecided:

0000? All my other BT phones had this code.

Is this the only unit that allows for a reverse/parking camera? I really like the look of the RNS-510. Don't know whether it'd accept a camera input though.

Yeah, I'd try 0000 or 1234.

I beleive you make up the code...just need to make sure you enter the same code on your HU and your Phone

Yep . Some bluetooth devices ask for this - but if one device is asking for it then the other device will too. Just make sure you use the same number and it should be fine.

Most Double-DIN A/V and Sat Nav Headunits (and some single DIN with pop-out screens) support a the reverse camera input.

Also the RNS-510 does support a reverse camera but like most OEM retro-fits it's not as cheap as the aftermarket equivalent.

Excellent. Think I'll look up the specs of the RNS-510 against the DNX7200.

I just ran my ipod cable to the armrest of my new stereo on Wednesday.
With my previous stereo I disassembled the whole armrest and it was a total pain - but this time I found an easy way that took me 10 mins.

You can do it by simply pulling the gear gaiter off and taking out the ashtray with 2 x torx screws.   Feed the cable from the stereo down to here and then push it through into the drivers footwell.
If you open the armrest and remove the rubber bottom, you should be able to pull open a compartment.  Remove 1 x torx screw from above the bit you've just opened and you should be able to loosen off the armrest a bit.  Now you can feed the cable directly from your drivers footwell straight into the gap you've made between the armrest / bottle opened compartment - and grab it with your hand and pull it into the armrest.

Tuck the cable up into the center bit, then pull the iPod end and it should pull it all tight so that the cable is no longer visible.  With a bit of poking you should be able to get all the cable inside the center bit so that its under the bottle opener bit.
