Yeah seems about right to me, i do my best to get 330 or so but that would be without really "aving it" The last few days ive been trying to see how high i can get the avg mpg on my 20 minute journey to work, my best so far is 40.9mpg, i was well chuffed  wiv  myself ;D 8) usually averages at about 32mpg though!

Its all better now very shiny, but now the windows have gone again! and shocks are squeaking like mice!!aarrgghhh

Just to compare - I have a 1.8 20v (non turbo) and yesterday I got 46.7mpg, but I average at 38-39mpg.

?40 gives me around 380 miles

In my non-turbo I get about 38mpg on a long motorway journey (doing 80-90mph), but on my 16 mile trip to work in busy traffic I only get about 33mpg.

My 2.0 8v gets about 275-340miles for ?40 (of Optimax), depends on how much I've been ragging it and wether it's short town trips / longer motorway trips. Averages tend to be: 18mpg when in full "go cart" mode, 25-28mpg around town and 32-36mpg when mostly motorways.

My last tank was ?41.17 for 339miles, but >half motorway miles and only a couple of big taffic jams and grand-prix starts.

Would have thought a 1.8T would be a lot better if driven slowly, but worse if you're foot flat with the turbo spinning the whole time.

gonna make you sick,

My average since the car was bought(15000 miles) is 52.3.  My average on a motorway run is 60mpg.

A tank usually lasts 490 miles, but my record was 584 miles for a tank which was all on the motorway...

And its still considerably f ing quick, soz guys, just mine sounds like a transit van,,,,,

I've just come back from a long weekend in Wales and I got 43.2 MPG out of my 1.8T GTI which is the best I've ever had.  Must be the Welsh air!   :)

Just got 375 miles out of a full tank (filled up when the warning light came on).  That was using new shell v power.  Used to only get 300 miles from normal unleaded so well worth the money I reckon.  Getting about 38mpg on the motorway (70-80 mph) and about 30-34 mpg around town.
