Does the tinting film also provide a layer of security - i.e. makes the window harder to smash through? Or is that a special kind of film altogether?

If you really don't like the white boarder on the rear screen, and wanted to go the OEM route, then you could order a genuine rear tinted screen from your stealer for around £170, and then pay Autoglass or similar to swap it.  'Cause theres no doubt that the factory fit ones look soooo much better!

Good idea. :afro:

mine has factory tints too, i much prefer it to having those daft white lines and dots you get with aftermarket stuff, and they look a little less pimp my ride

Thanks.

Sadly, OEM tints wern't available when we ordered our GIT, so at the mo, it has one of those roller mesh sunblinds in the rear window (proper VW accessory).  It does its' job, but some might question its aesthetics, and it certainly ain't as good as the electric rear blind in my RS.

Does anyone have pics, or opinions on what the OEM tints look like on 5door Reflex silver GTIs?  :undecided:

I think they look fine - what don't you like about them Tony?

Maybe on a dark-coloured car, the tints "blend in" with the colour of the paint work, and look less "obvious", whereas on lighter colours (Candy, Reflex), the tints are a bit more prominent or "in-yer-face", like on 182_blues, which do look much more obvious! ???

I think tonyh meant the pics weren't great rather than the tints
T_T - did you fit your blinds afterwards? How much were they?
I think they would be a good alternative to tints - esp if you have a baby in the back.
Any pics?
