Thanks for the input guys...

So from what I can gather (please correct me if I'm wrong)

GTI intercooler is the same as the ED30
Turbo in the ED30 is the K04
DV Is spaced from the turbo in the ED30, non spaced in the standard GTI

So - I take it if my car's a standard GTI with custom remap, all I would need to do for a safe and reliable upgrade is to put a spacer in for the DV (I'd probably go for a Forge with spacer), get the K04 turbo fitted and the custom remap amended.

I've found a nice site in the US with the turbo upgrade for 950 Pounds, so this looks like a good cost effective mod.  Suggestions please (up to 300-310bhp with custom remap) if this is a relatively safe mod to carry out....

no..... early models of gti (like mine) are located on the turbo and new models of the gti are re-located to the front, doesnt matter if its a ed30 or gti KO3 or KO4. I think they moved it as its was in a very hot place previously.

I thought it was only the K04 version which has it relocated to the front - all GTI's are on the turbo.

You can relocate it though with OEM parts - for about £130

For a 'basic' upgrade you would need - DV relocation, K04 turbo, pipework - not sure if you could get away with the stock GTI injectors but you could try.  Next from that is S3 IC & Injectors

Not sure about the latest 2.0TSI engine (as in the timing chain version) but I am pretty sure all K03's were on the turbo - could be wrong and hopefully someone can correct me if so..

....That's also my understanding.

I think that VW/VAG got fed up with constantly revising their DV! They got up to Revision G!! I'm not convinced that the stock DV's construction has long term reliability on remapped cars wherever it's located. Though I expect that VrStu might disagree with me on that one.

Its a tribute pal, when I get some decent pictures of the S3 I'm gonna ask Mike to do me a sig with both cars

....That's a very cool idea, gaz  - It's great that your enthusiasm for the GTI/Ed30 is such that you still stick around here. You're input is appreciated.

Cheers pal, I like it here, I wouldn't hesitate in getting another GTi , in fact I'm trying to convince the other half that she really needs 1

Some GTI owners are upgrading there OEM fuel pumps to the S3 OEM version.

For relocating the DV what and where can you get the pipe work as i bought RobMK5's dbilas kit but cant fit it as i have a ko4 unit so need pipe work and dbilas aren't forthcoming with the parts.

didn't realise the S3 pump was different keith, and as far as I know the DV relocation is something the regular GTi lads do get it away from the turbo, where as yours already is

theres an APR kit available for the gti, i saw it at awesome lat time I was there, i think its about £4000 and you get about 380bhp from what i can remember, with that much power an LSD is a defo!!

Thare are 2 kits Joe, 1 that converts regular GTi to KO4 spec, basically ED30 or S3, then there is the STG3 big turbo conversion using a garrett turbo and giving 370-380bhp

thats the one im on about

There is news on the conversion on their homepage Joe, not cheap though
