Brake fluid change?
« on: 26 August 2008, 22:17 »
I was talking to a friend who is a foreman in a main Vauxhall dealer, don't groan!

Anyway I mentioned I was advised that VW recommend to change the brake fluid every 4 years/40,000 miles. He said all Vauxhall's are 2 years as its down to atmospheric conditions and that condensation can get into the fluid.

Anyone know about this, and why its different between manufacturers?

Yes 2 years is correct, brake fluid is hydroscopic,ie. it absorbs water over time.

Yup.  Two years is now the industry standard, worldwide, for ALL car manufacturers.

LOL.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, and not hydroscopic!  The former absorbs water from the atmosphere, and the latter is an instrument for looking at objects under water!   :nerd:  :smug:

Are you on the VW pre-paid maintenance plan?  They may be trying to worm their way out of doing some work for you?  :undecided:
