Mod Friendly Insurance for the MK5

Evening All,

It's that joyous time of year for insurance renewal 

My current insurer wants £950 which is £350 more than last year (plus an increased excess of £850) because of my recent mods.

I know the forum has a recommended insurance company (HIC), however there quote was a total joke at £2.5K  and had a distinct lack of customer service.

I have tried Greenlight as I remember post positive posts on them before the recent forum crash who have given me the best quote of £597 with £350 excess.

Anyone else got any recommendations on mod friendly insurance companies?

i hear adrian flux are quite mod tolerant....also I am with Diamond they have been good thus far, I have milltek etc they also only wanted £103 for covering REVO stage 1.  I think you can add mods in on line and you get a quote, though not sure how extensive that facility actually is.

They market themselves as specialising in women's insurance, but are not allowed by law to discriminate the market in such a way I think!!

You could try Swinton insurance. They are a broker, but will look for specialised cover for modded motors.

I went with Adrian Flux and quoted that I was a member of UKMIV's as you get an extra discount by mentioning them (think it is 15% from memory). £585 for all my mods declared and only £150 excess. They are linked to HIC and so your quote may come out the same, but it is worth a shot as by mentioning UKMIV's they may give a more sensible quote anyway.

Cheers Hurdy, I match most of the criteria (just one 4 year old 3 point SP30) but drive 25-30K miles per year which make a big difference with most insurers.

Just had my renewal from Adrian Flux and also phoned Chris Knott, both of whom offer a discount if you mention a car club/forum.  Chris Knott are offering to beat any renewal or other quote you get by at least 10%.

It's a bit of a case of playing one against the other but also playing your cards close to your chest, both will try to squeaze as much info out of you as possible.  They will certainly ask you to telll them the best price you've been quoted, I only ever tell them to give me a quote that they think will win my business - I hate to tell them too much.

One thing I found with AF this year is that everytime I phone them they say 'can I just confirm your email address and mobile number' to which I reply 'no because I never gave it to you'

SteveP iv'e got 9 point's so i had to do a lot of searching. 1 thing i found which suprise'd me was i did a search on all of the search engine's thinking this would be best price. and i was flipping between me and the mrs to find the difference i was finding it cheaper to be a named driver, anyway back to my point a few of the on-line form's kept crashing and i found ringing companies up was working out far cheaper than on-line  same companies exact same policy would sometime's be £200 cheaper.
try sheila's wheels they are mod friendly but try on the phone.
