tracking...nobody can do it!!
« on: 25 August 2008, 15:17 »
Well I spent a few hours today calling round my local trye places for my tracking adjusted...... only to be told the machine wont go on to my wheels! (that was after slowly getting it on 3 different ramps!). i know its out as i had lots of other suspension bits changed and we set them all level on each side (now my steering wheel is offfset!)
now my point..
do i raise the front and get it tracked and then lower it down?
do i attempt to sort it myself and adjust verything?
or does anybody know a good place (Yorkshire area) that can help? oh yeah spoke to my local dealer and they siad if other places cant do it..they wont be able too!!

Well ive had this, luckily a mate of the guy who put on my coilovers runs a local kwik fit. So even though my car is slammed to the ground, they can 100% do the tracking. Its down to how bothered they can be and who you know i think.

Im going to get mine done this week sometime, as my wheel is ofset and it does my head in, and i have to drive like 140miles to ed38 on friday! lol

But i cant see how raising it, then lowering it again will affect the tracking. But then again, you shouldnt have to do it. they are just being lazy.

I have to agree with Mikester, I have 2 local dealers and one wouldn,t touch the tracking/ caster/ camber on my 16v when it was slammed, but the other did it with no problems.

By the way, when the tracking was sorted the steering wheel was still off centre, so i just took it off and reset it.

I was just saying that when the tracking is sorted, there is no guarantee that it will straighten the wheel, as it didn't with mine. It was the dealer that suggested resetting the wheel.

Wrong, thats the whole purpose of why you have to have the tracking and camber reset when you lower your car.. all the geometry changes when you lower it... and it does make a massive diff, even if you adjust it by an inch
