Ed 30 dented by 4x4 owner
« on: 24 August 2008, 11:04 »

I could see the 4x4 parked quite close to my Edition 30 yeasterday as I walked towards it .... having parked it as far from anything as I could .... and I then watched in horror as it's driver opened the rear door straight onto my car .... leaving the usual small dent right in the middle of the rear off side panel.

When I pointed it out and the fact the car was 'new' he did apologise and did not dispute the dent was there.  I have his details and he said give him a ring with the estimate ..... so I suppose at least I saw him do it as he didn't really notice having done it.

Hopefully the guy will pay up once I get it done.

Question : What would people normally expect to pay for removal of said dent .... and apart from the bloke who comes round to my dealer to do this stuff has anyone used anyone for minor parking dent removal in the SW London / Surrey area - if so please let me know who so I can get a price.

Chips away charge between £70-£80.  Its a bit hit and miss though, my local franchise have a guy who has taken 3 parking dinks out of the golf and you would never know they were there.  They can be hit and miss though, try to go off recommendations for your area

£100 tops. I used Dentmaster when some scrote dinked my Boxster - but I got it done through an OPC. Good job though

Would it not be possible to take the inner panel off and repeatedly bash the winker's head against it. Then drag him by his feet and dent every panel on his 4X4, again with his head.
Just a thought.

Does anybody remember that Top Gear shown years ago when the Golf first came out, and Richard Hammond was testing a silver 2.0tdi against the new Astra and Focus...? He took it to a driving range where people were hitting balls into the car. He commented that one of the features of the new Golf was that it had a "special" outter skin, which when the usual dents occured, could simply be replaced very cheaply...?

Now, I know that most of the stuff that Top Gear (and the rest of the motoring press) is rubbish, but is this point valid? I've certainly never seen in writing/heard from a VW dealer of such feature. But maybe just a thought?

you can undo the skins on the doors and replace, it also helps to push dents out too, this of course wont help on the back non door area or the wing

doing this

ends up with this

this of course only works on the doors, although the front wing does come off quite easily
