door connection plug pin outs??
« on: 24 August 2008, 10:50 »
im in the process of upgrading my 1.4l interior to a gti interior. iv got the doorcards and the elecy windows and the wiring loom for the door. my car is a 1996 and the gti was earlier that the loom came off, are all the pinouts the same?

also my 1.4 is all manual at the minute, and the female part of the plug seems to have everything plugged into it apart from what i think is the elecy windows cable? does anyone know all the pinouts for this plug? i reckon its just the electric windows cable from the female plug to the fuse box im missing?

you plug in a small section of the dash loom which connects the two doors together then branches off into the fuse box but if your not brave enough to retro fit it into the fuse box you can do either of the following.

There is a large power cable with a thermal fuse, this must be used! This one is always live. connect directly to the battery.
There is a smaller power cable which is fused and comes on with the ignition.

You can connect the thermal fuse directly to the battery and then connect the smaller one to this so both are always live, The windows will work but not turn off with the ignition.

Otherwise,  find a wire which is only live with ignition and connect to this.   This will save you having to dig arround the back of the fuse box and it will work as its supposed to.

Or... if you dond mind studiying the fuse box you can just connect it how it should be

i dont mind doing electrics, but if i can do it properly id prefer to do it that way! from what i can gather on the plug, there is a connecton for the central locking, for the speaker, and for the door mirrors, however where i reckon the windows connector should be its missing. where would the best place to get these cables from?

and how do they connect to the fuse box? the fuse will already be there so is it just another connector? if i need to crimp it onto another wire then dont mind that but id rather do it right at the door and get that missing plug.

just get the dash loom from a doner at the scrappy or something.

I have one here if you want it.  call it £10 deliverd.  Its only a stretch of cable that runs between the two.  I couldnt figure out where it went onto the fuse box so i wired it in my own way which is perfectly safe and works well.    Just study a GTI fuse box, its all plug and play so cant be to hard.

that would be great, is that just the elecy windows cables tho or all of them bound together? have you done this before then? i was hoping it might just plug and play as some 1.4s and cls do have the electrics but unfortunatly mine doesnt have that cable.

so you have that cable that joins the two doors together. but where are the two power cables you need then? are the part of that loom also?

Hi yea its all part of the loom,  It plugs in the white conectors to the doors then branches off.  I did this to my CL.

It has a few other plugs for the light bulbs in the switches which i left out but i have been re wiring the whole car today for a 16V engine and i can see that its all colour coded so you literaly just plug the green cable into the green block etc..   Very simple.

I need to dig out the cable.  Not sure where it is now as i took the old loom out but i will have a look for it later.

ok, so can we say 15 for that loom and the passenger side handle?

im sure ill have some questions for you when i come to do it!!

just a quick question tho, in the haynes schematics, it shows the drivers side central locking switch as part of the loom. is this when you turn the key the windows will wind up or down depending which way you turn it. this is what i guessed, but theres no explanation of the pinouts in the haynes

you need the door loom for each side, Good chance to add electric wing mirrors coz its shares the power off the window motor loom so literaly plugs in and works.

Your correct about the central locking, it auto closes when you lock the doors.  I never got it working on mine as i think it needs to plug into the fuse box or somthing.  i forget now.  Personaly i wouldnt confused ur self with the diagrams because its all plug and play unless you plan to splice it your self. all you need to do is find where it goes on the fuse box.   all i remeber is that the thermal fuse clips onto the holders on the top of it.

I have the leccy wing mirrors for £10 each as well if you are interested.

where is the thermal fuse? or is that something i need to add? i have both wiring looms for the doors, its just that loom connecting the doors with the elecy windows that i need.

and yeh ill have them! iv just been looking through ebay for some elecy mirrors. are they good condition? colour coded or just plastic? i think the wiring for the mirrors are already in the dash. so can we call it £35 for them parts?

also did you sell you non-gti interior? just wondering how im going to get rid of it!
