Thanks for the great review.

Personally I'm not a fan of the looks and from a side view looks a lot like an Astra.....which isn't necesserily a bad thing as I think they're quite pretty but I wouldn't want anyone to think my VW was a Vauxhall!

RedRobin

May I ask you a huge favour...?
The website you put the review on refuses to show on my pc. Judging from the comments I would really like to read your review and see a few pics.

I doubt South Africa is getting one but between my dad and myself we would like to read it.

Would you mind maybe emailing me the writing? Or maybe posting the thread you had there in a PM for me?
It would be greatly appreciated. I would like to see the pictures too.

Thanks

You didn't miss anything Mike.
He only had the car 2 hour's and all he manage'd to do was was cover the thing in carbon and strap 4 drain pipes to the underside.

Thanks Topcat

A very interesting read.

1. RR you commented on getting bored of the car whereas other journalists say its awesome to drive and gives a good buzz. In all fairness do you think that having a Milltek and mapped GTi was a contributing factor to this boredom?

2. The Gti engine is well known for its torque and almost zero turbolag. How was this in comparison? Obviously its not a GTi but Im curious.

3. You said the suspension was rather high... Did they remove the spacers??   OR maybe just the suspension setting you had it on? I noticed the press pics of the car are a lot lower...

A very interesting read. I wish I was you. I want to go into car Journalism.

....Yes - Many Thanks, Top Cat - Ive been out - another 330 miles today going to and from London like yesterday.

Mike - To answer your questions....

1. I hear on good authority that the Press Scirocco's "have been played with" (the actual words!). Yes I think that the Scirocco is great to drive but not "awesome" - My friend's VW Racing-prepared Mk5 GTI is "awesome"! The Scirocco is very good indeed but unfortunately I couldn't help compare it with my modded GTI, especially as the engine and steering wheel and DSG is so similar. Someone other than an enthusiast might find my GTI too raw by comparison. Yes, I'm sure that my remap and Milltek contributed a lot to my relative boredom.

2. Good torque and zero turbo lag - Just like the GTI. The DSG feels outstandingly smooth - Too smooth imo - It feels too much like an automatic.

3. The magazine shots I've seen show the car with similar wheelarch height to the one I drove. It all works very well but just doesn't look cool!

As a very comfortable fast coupe which is extremely smooth and holds the road well, the new Scirocco is great and I think competes with the Audi TT in some ways, but if want a more fun and tactile car you'll have to mod it and more than just a remap.

That's just my opinion - Others will think differently but I'm not a motoring journalist and can't be 'bought'.
