Could be crank rear oil seal, gearbox input shaft seal or clutch pushrod seal.
You need to have the gearbox out to have a look.
I take it the clutch is slipping?

well took it to this garage to have the clutch changed and thats all they did. they claimed that they phoned me to ask me if they could do the work to stop the leak but couldnt get through and didnt leave a message and they would happily take it apart and fix it if i paid them again! was p!ssed off!

Sorry to hear that mate.
I don't think there is a lot you can do, apart from get the box of again, i don't think there is any claim against the garage. You could try negotiating with them, get a lowish price for taking it all off again.
If they refuse then make sure that you post the details of the garage on here, so we can avoid them!
Good luck  :)

Thats not good.
You could try trading standards for advice, but i don't think you are going to get anywhere.
Problem is you will need to get the car independently inspected to see if you have a case that they have bodged it.
By time you have paid for that you might as well paid someone to do the job.
I would post on the 'good guys section' , tell your story and tell everyone on here to stay away from them.
Do the same on clubgti as well.

at the end of the day they did nothing wrong in the eyes of the law they did what i asked and nothing more! yea it would have been nice if they stopped the leak (and a hell of a lot cheaper for me) but they didnt! They tried to phone me on my mobile but i was a way from my desk they could of left a message but dicided not to. yea they pissed me off! but i can see it from there side that nothing was done wrong! Garages like that go for volume of work not quality and great customer relations!

As far as I'm concerned that is totally unprofessional.........You don't fit a new clutch knowing full well that an oil leak is going to contaminate the new clutch a few miles down the road.......hence box back off, another new clutch and repair the oil leak.

They couldn't get hold of you.........something as important as that they should have left a message or at the very least stopped work until they could get hold of you.......b@stards, I hate seeing people get ripped off like this >:( I would rather take flack from you for taking longer to do the job properly than bodge it like this.

* Rant over *
