As bad as it sounds, you probably should of let the bus hit you, but obviously alot worse could of happened to you then. I'm not surprised of what you did considering you were in you pride and joy, because I would of done the same as you, but point being, you made something else happen as a result of avoiding something, that's ultimately your responsibility, and that's the way they look at it right?

I hope you don't get blamed but only time will tell me thinks.

I think you could be unlucky on this one, a mate of mine was going home late one night and as he went round a bend a car came towards him on his side of the road, he obviously swerved to avoid a head on but ploughed into two parked cars in the process. Legaly it was his fault as he was the one who crashed into the other cars and there were no witnesses to confirm his story about the other car being on his side of the road.

been told when doing lots of driveing in vans,  Don't ever swerve unless you have to,   if you have to swerve swap paint.    i know it sounds daft but swerving is the best way to miss something and crash into something else more expensive,  also if you swerve and hit something it's your fault,   but if you try and avoid it but swap paint they hit you (  providing you were obeying all relevant rules at the time )  and if you hit anything else afterwards due to trying to avoid it, they hit you before that so that goes down as there fault ( you hope )

it's sad to say it but i don't think anyone involed in an accident would stop and admit anything,  unless they had panel damage or cctv proving it even then they will still argue it,   2ndly no one will ever admit anything, or  offer to be a whiteness unless have to.

hope you have a quick recovery, and best of luck dealing with insurance companys

all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Good point mate. I had a woman who side swiped me when I had my 328 she was overtaking on the chevrons she stopped after I shouted at her to pull over because she was actually gonna drive off. Exchanged details and then my insurance company tell me that shes got a witness and that I pulled out on a roundabout and when you looked at the car you could see the paint marks on the arches. But because the lying cow said she had a witness thats what they were going by wasnt until I said  "I dont think so shes lying", they actually sent an investigator to find out couldnt get hold of the witness for months and months and they finally got a leter back saying "I cant remember what happened yesterday let alone last week"

So luckily got all my no claims back but if I hadnt argued and said that im not having that I would have lost 3 years ncb.

The problem here is by the sounds of it the bus didnt suddenly pull out but was in the middle of the road when you saw it and you didn't have enough room to break after seeing it.  Unfortunately insurance companies will go on well you should have been driving to a speed where when you came to the bridge you could have stopped, for example what if a car was broken down on the bridge on your side of the road.  Sounds like the insurance will go against you anyway.
