power loss... edition 30
« on: 18 August 2008, 16:30 »
Anyone else who owns a standard ed30 that sometimes suffers under hard accelaration, total power loss and traction control light flashes up when power dies off when i accelate hard in a straight line??. id expect this to happen in hard cornering etc and the traction control is just keeping the car pointing the right direction, but from a standing start, the minute i get wheel spin, the traction control is cutting the power completely. If i turn off the traction control, all is well, and has no problem. But seeing a constant yellow warning light on my dash display is annoying. Is anyone elses this delicate or is my car producing too much torque??

Hi Phil  sounds like your putting too much power down too quickly...?  try progressive acceleration, get rolling then once in second put your foot down.  If it still does it you may need to get it booked into the stealer to have the T/C looked at.

Sounds like the traction control doing it's job to me. The throttle doesn't have to be an on/off switch

I had this problem too, but mine was wheel spin in 4th at 80 leptons.

Seriously though, have you just noticed this or has it been happening a while?. I doubt very much that it the engine is developing too much torque for the car to handle. What was the weather like when you noticed it, wet road, dry road, greasy road?

flooring it from stand still with esp on is always rubbish it just judders aroundand u look like a fool, even with it off u never get a good start if you floor it as mortygt140 says its all about been progressive on the go faster pedal, i use first just to get it rolling then straight into 2nd and floor it(esp on will still flash) without is all good!

always turn esp off!

esp off then for special occasions then!, it seems to be on lumpy road surfaces only. My standard GTi dsg never done it at all whether i floored it from the off. Must be the extra 30 horses making the esp work for a change!.

I test drove two GTis and both were ED30s. Found that if you floor it from standstill, the car judders and doesn't accelerate well. Like [b[Gtijames[/b], found that a slower start and quickshift to 2nd gear is better.

Not tried driving with ESP off.

yeah i ment traction control light is coming on when engine power is lost, and the car wants to come to a standstill.yes looks light i'll have to be lighter on the gas pedal and be more progressive on the throttle. My standard GTi's didnt have this problem, i could always get traction (except in the wet) when flooring the throttle.

Yup had that once. Foot down the floor with S selected. Too much wheel spin. TC light flashing. Next minute the power is cut and I nearly shot through the windscreen!!!

Too much of a leadfoot, I ease the power in now.
Bye Bye Edition 30
