Cost of Brakes

i done pads and disks and rear pad drums on my driver and that took me a whole morning from about 11am to about4ish, rear drums are gay. fronts arento so hard but 45 mins a side is about right providing no problems. i had a seized caliper as well

it took me about 30 mins to carefully tap out the old shim from the old discs. only takes like 2 mins to bang it into the new discs. I had a spare rear wheel bearing lying around anyway so I put that in one side that wasn't replaced a couple of months ago.

When changing the rear discs it is advisable to put new bearings in. The bearings and shells are NOT interchangeable, they are a matched set.

All done now.  actually came to ?150 as they had priced for normal GTI discs.  Still, happy about that.  

RW Auto, very friendly outfit, and happy to look at the rear discs while it was up.

Things are easy when everything goes to plan . If the garage does a good job, people say they are too dear and if it is a 5hit job.......
How come I have to get a registered "engineer" to couple up my gas heater and pay a *king fortune?. I am a engineer and it is my skill, experience and ability that make the job look easy. Does that makes people think the job was expensive?. (in rant mode )

Yeah thats correct Diz.
They are a machined set and cannot be interchanged.

Garages work on book times.
Sometimes it goes to plan , sometimes it doesn't.
This is why a garage for example will quote 2 hours to do front discs/pads.
The book time will be worked out as an average, so sometimes they might be done quickly, sometimes it might take a bit longer.
Its ok if everything comes off easily, but would anyone be happy about paying more if it doesn't come off as easily? probably not.
