Mk IV Badging
« on: 04 May 2004, 14:26 »
I'm new here so sorry if you have all answered this one a thousand times. I'm looking a definitive answer on the badging of the Mark IV GTI's and GT TDI's.  I've seen many variations such as GT in silver and red TDI, or just a red I etc and what I'd like to know is how the badge relates to the HP variations, eg 115, 130, 150.

I've heard a lot of different people say a lot of different things about the badging, some seem to think that a red I means a PD150 and others think its a red TDI. I recently bought a Mk IV GT TDI PD 150. Its badged simply as GTI with the GT silver and the I red.

Does anyone know?

Welcome to the site, sorry I can't answer your question as I've often wondered how you tell what from what, so I'm waiting for someone to answer this properly too  ;D

This has been a topic that has raised its head sveral times, and we have yet to find a definative answer!

Every time we think we have it nailed, someone else comes along with a car that blows the theory!

I have a PD150 and it was badged as a GTI (silver G and T with a red I) but some PD150 owners have it badged as a TDI (all letters in red).

From what I have been able to understand, the 115 is badged TDI (T and D in silver, red I) the 130 as TDI with T in silver and D and I in red) and any PD 150's badged as TDI's are all in red.

Hope this helps a bit!

So the upshot is that even VW aren't even sure what badges to put on then !  ;D

I guess they just grab whatever are around at the time then by the looks of it, my, that's handy  ;) Hang on, maybe mines not actually a GTi, might be a GL - lol

Its to do with cars that was imported from europe where they had the red i, an ones from here had silver i, but the dealers were supposed to be replacing the silver i wiv the red i, but usually didnt bother!! something like that anyway, its def no more special if you have a red "i"  just someone being lazy!

Its all better now very shiny, but now the windows have gone again! and shocks are squeaking like mice!!aarrgghhh

 ??? Well,

mine's a GTTDi 115 with the T in silver and the Di in red. Rest of the car is in green. Which is a shame.
