The dreaded coilpack-itis (or not ?) AARRGGHHH !!

Car misfired and spluttered like a b@stard all the way to work thismorning, booked into the stealership for thursday AM. My car is now sitting on my mother's driveway waiting for a trailer to pick it up, really don't fancy driving it in this state.
Anyone who's had their coil packs replaced be able to give me an idea of costs ?

Can't really give you a price as mine went under warranty. Make sure they replace all the coils, as if they don't your car will be back in within a couple of weeks.

Well the car went in today, had a phonecall about 6pm from the guys in the workshop. It was showing an intermittent fault that they pinned down to a dodgy air mass sensor.
Now my concern is.. they were very quick to mention "its hard to clarify an intermittent fault" .. fair enough I thought, but then they said it again as if to make the point even clearer. Also I was pretty much convinced it was an ignition problem, misfiring as if its running on 3 cylinders all the way up the rev range intermittently (even at idle). If I get half way down the road and it starts to misfire again thats ?200 + fitting + inspection charge for nothing.
I told them to go ahead with the work and will be sitting here with fingers crossed until I pick it up tomorrow morning  

ps. the car also had a recall notice on it to replace faulty vacuum hoses on the brakes, might be worth checking your own car with the dealer ('99 1.8T)

OK.. new MAF in place, no more misfires. Now then.. once i got the car up to temperature while out to get petrol tonight i gave it a bit of stick, or at least i tried to.
Absolutely nothing ! it's as if i have no turbo, i can still hear it whistling as it spools up, but there's now a heavy wheezing noise and absolutely no power. There is obviously some boost because i can still hear the DV release the pressure when i let off the gas.
I popped the bonnet to take a look at the new part, which looks like it doesn't fit properly. Took the airbox top off and shined a torch in but couldnt see any light shining through the gap. Here's some pics.




Sorry about the quality it's pitch black outside. Needless to say I'll be back at the dealership first thing in the morning to give them a b*llocking. If it's not this that's causing the problem is it possible they haven't put something back together properly ? And yes, this part was both supplied and fitted by a MAIN VOLKSWAGEN DEALER

Just back from the dealership, they showed me the old part and its the same shape, they said the gap was normal ? Anyway the norm who took it out for a test drive with me thismorning seemed to think the power wasn't lacking, yet couldn't explain the wheezing noise.
I know my car, its running at a snails pace now, it's booked in for thorough inspection on thursday

A fella that works in a garage had a VW with a similar problem to yours and he replaced the "Reducer Valve" and that seemed to cure the problem

hey if any of you coil pack peeps want nay spare in your boot in case of any mishaps i have 4 v.a.g coil packs fors sale ?50 FOR 4!! BARGIN!! all goood worth a buy to keep in the boot in case they ever pack up!! lol
