Help I'm getting laughed at!!!!! :(

Hi guys,

drove into work today in my fairly recently bought mk4 1.8t gti and a guy who just got back from hol and hadnt seen it before said "nice, is it a 1.6s?!".  its standard so i admit it looks abit bland but not that basic.  the most annoying thing is he actually knows quite a bit about cars!

Anyway, does anybody have any sudgestions as to what to do to make it look better, more special, more GTI?  I am on a tight budget also.

A mk2 16valver would do the trick
lower it a bit and put some tasteful wheels on it?

anniversary kit and wheels sets them apart a bit imo, should imagine you can get those bits relatively cheap second hand if needed?

A nice set of rims and lowering it can make all the difference. What's your budget?

Don't sweat about it... The Mk4's all about subtley anyway. Back when they were new, it was the "gentlemans hot hatch" as opposed to a lairy type-r for example.

Chris has got the right idea above - you need a set of the better rims to get it looking special, but I would REALLY suggest (IMO) sticking to genuine VW alloys as the Mk4 is approaching the price level where its becomming affordable by chavs (higher mileage ones anyway), and the first thing they do is stick a set of fox alloys on them.   


PS... And if you put some audi alloys on it, my head will explode (seen TOOOO many lately).

Personally I think the R32 wheels look the best on a MK4.

well you could get a dump valve then when you come into the car park and gove it the "woo tishhh" he will know its a gti

yeah, and one of those tea trays those chavs call spoilers.

Anniversary kit and wheels sound the best idea to me. lowering it a little would look nice too.
