OT - Oi, Europe, eff off with yer "green" tosh
« on: 12 August 2008, 16:13 »
Hmm, a bit off topic - maybe not . . . anyhows, just found this:

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Low-Rolling-Resistance-Tyres-to-become.htm

The meddling fools in the EU want "Low Rolling Resistance Tyres" to become compulsory fitment from 2012.  So basically, that means no more Mich Pilot Sport PS2, or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, and the likes.  Just imagine having to run your Golf GTI on Michelin Energy tyres!

Petition Brussels, anyone?

I imagine that on the more powerful cars (porsche and the like) performance tyres will still be an "option" when ordering the car from the dealers. It's all hog wash really.

The article doesn't state whether the LRRT will be obligatory on new cars or on all existing cars. I would think on new cars (like the requirement for Day Time Running lights). Therefore there would still be a market for the PS2 and F1 tyres.

The way I read it, is from 2012, all NEW cars must have them fitted, so that would include Porks and the like!

I agree there is nothing about existing motors though!

By 2012 petrol will be £5 a litre, road tax for a 1.2ltr car £1500, Insurance £2k, congestion charging at £1 a mile on all motorways (and £2 in city centres) and the only cars you will be able to buy new are poxy little cc cars, electric cars, hybrids and  :sick:diesels. So having energy efficient tyres will just be another nail in the coffin TBH.

they want to look at reducing their own emissions which IIRC according to a report a couple of months back the average CO2 emission from their vehicles was well over the 220mgs/km mark!!

i say burn the fooking lot of them

....Nah! Just the bad smell of old farts and worth putting up with just to see them burn!

An alternative is the rubber necklace! A burning tyre around their necks!
