Yup, OEM VW ones - 101 905 631 B.  A tenner a pop retail though!

They are actually made by Bosch, cat no F6KPP, and have a platium tipped dinky centre electrode, so unless you have the proper gapping tools, leave them as they are straight out of the box (unless some muppet has dropped one, but then you;d ask for another anyway )

You should only really be looking at different plugs if youve done some serious modding.

I'm not - been in for service today. They gave two prices, and the even higher one was if the plugs needed changing. In the end they didn't. But I did wonder if people had alternate brands they preferred to vw supplied ones... just in-case it was marginal :)

Indeed!

If I changed the plugs I'd need to get the manual out to find how to open the bonnet! So, no :)

Huh - there is no discrepancy over changing the spark plugs for routine services - if the schedule states 40k miles, then that is when they should get done.  If you had your servicing done at a non-franchised stealer, VW would be the first to cry foul regarding the manufactureres schedule not being followed to the letter.

OK, if you have a misfire or sommat, then the plugs can be replaced beforehand - but they should still be replaced in accordance with the schedule too!

This was a main dealer. To be fair to them, they said "if they need changing" which could have meant anything - most probably whatever the schedule says. Though I would expect they'd have a look at them anyway?

I've had this thing with them before - not just vw - where they ring you midday and say something 'nearly' needs doing and do I want to go ahead anyway, as they have the car...
