17" Monza Wheel Touch Up Paint
« on: 11 August 2008, 07:50 »
Hi Chaps.
After an incident with my locking wheel nut and the wheel brace, I need some touch up paint for one of my 17" standard Monzas
Does anyone know where to get one of these from online please

Cheers

The stealers should have the paint for 17"s.  It's just a standard wheel silver, but probably sods law that it is a non-standard shade!

Depends how deep the scratches are.  :undecided:

Don't really like T-Cut though.  Prefer AutoGlym Super Resin Polish, or 3M Perfect-It for more heavy duty paint corrections.

Cheers for the top tip T_T, I have some AutoGlym Super Resin Polish in the garage and didn't realise! Will try that on the alloy and see what happens.

....If, like me, you're not as physically strong as you used to be (my excuse is being 61yo), this (expensive) aid is very useful for helping you from damaging your even more expensive alloys : -

Looks good RR, Thanks.
My problem is that the wheel brace is not smooth and round, it looks like its been cast in 2 parts. As I struggled to undo the locking wheel nut that the dealer had tightened with their air gun, the rough part scraped some of the paint off just outside of where the black plastic cap sits. This is visible with the plastic cap on and looks bad as its down to the metal.

Still cant find a touch up paint online, (fed up with my dealer so dont use them for parts), will have to try fleabay! If anyone knows where to get one of these touch up pots I'd appreciate the pointer

How much ????

That is identical to the genuine Touareg one, part no 7L0 012 233, with a retail price from your friendly VW dealer of £3.69 !!!  I've heard of "mark-up", but that is just a rip-off!

Arrrrgh.  Forget the useless OEM wheelbraces.  Get one of those extendible wheel breaker bars, complete with a 6-point socket and angled head to clear the arches - about £2.99 from Lidl, and the same in Halfrauds for about £8 !!!
