DVD on the go?
« on: 10 August 2008, 16:41 »
I am thinking of buying a MFD2 unit from an ebay seller and i know that due to current reg's your not meant to have DVD's playing while driving but my son bless him wants to watch his power rangers in the car now after seeing a portable dvd kit on tv for cars.I am sure there is plug in kit that will allow this Is there also one that allows you play music while the nav is in use, i now you can if you have the 6 cd player, also anybody here with the MFD2 unit that has added extra monitors to it?.
I want OEM as was gonna buy a Kenwood DDX6029 unit, noticed Blaukpunt also now sell recon rcd300 - 500 units on ebay also the MFD2 units but the 2's are well dear.

Are you looking to play DVD video from the MFD2 as I don't believe it supports this? If so I think you would need to add a DVD video player and get a TV-Free interface to allow video playback in motion, but this can screw with the Nav side of things I have heard.

Here is a link for an example TV-Free adapter http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p870_IMA-Multimedia-Adapter-mit-Steuerung--Basic-Plus-.html

Not sure on the video output side for addtional screens etc.

I gues i may have to get back on the kenwood trail again.

The Kenwood is a good unit and is easier to integrate to additional rear screens as it has the a direct video output.

The only OEM option in the VW range is the RNS-510 that can directly play DVD videos, but as I am sure you will have seen it will cost a few hundred more than the Kenwood.
