swapping tyres

just wondering if its a false economy to swap worn front tyres to the rear. the fronts are just above the ware bars. also weres the best place to get a pair of goodyear f1 v tread if im to buy new ones. cheers

Yup, agreed.

In fact, this is now the formal specific advice by the tyre manufacturers, and the car industry as a whole, to have tyres with the deepest tread depth on the rear axle.

However, by doing that, whilst you dramatically improve the safety of the car, you can also let the rear tyres degrade beyond the 6 year age limit.

So my recommendation would be NOT to swap the tyres front to rear - to even out the wear between front to rear (unless you have a specific type of four wheel drive system which requires 4 identical tyres).  When the fronts wear out first (which they always do on front wheel drive cars), get them replaced with new boots.  Then, ideally, keep these new boots on the front for the first 250miles (to scrub them in, but also to check theyv'e been correctly balanced, as it's considerably easier for a driver to notice imbalance on front wheels compared to rears).  After that initial running in period, then swap the fronts to the rears.

good advice that TT, just put new treads on the front of mine and the back ones are starting to get low on the sides so i will be buying new ones in the next month or so and doing this nice one!
