vaughny in da house

looks a nice van guy,
couple of quick questions to ask before viewing
what welding has been done on the van
when was the respray done
what work has been done on the engine, is it original or re-con
has he got receipts for the work that has been done to the van, i.e respray, welding etc
if all is good and it`s a genuine van and genuinely had loads spent on it
£6k all day long

one thing i will say is check what size the bed is as most people prefer one that goes the full width of the van, some only go across 3/4 of the width due to cupboards and if there is two of you it can get pretty cramped
any thing else you need to know ask away

one of my old bays

dudes!

thanks for all the replies

this is the first time I have looked at a van and I don't know much about them but you are all a massive help :afro:

don't know about the welding
the engine looked original but very well maintained (wish I'd taken a photo of it now)
from memory it was a shell rust treatment but I don't know when... the rust spots are from obvious damage... only small and on the corner of a door where it has obv got banged - it certainly didn't look, from a brief inspection, as though it was a shoddy job and full of filler.
he does have receipts but I was looking at it on the side of a road and speaking to him on the phone so it wasn't that easy

as it was only a 2 berth the owner imported a 4 berth so that he could have more room - the seller, on the phone, seemed like a really genuine chap and was happy to talk about anything to do with it

here's the thing... he's asking £7.7k for it which to me, even for this, was a bit high

I think I am deciding not to pursue this one too much further unless everyone thinks I am being a fool

my reasoning behind this is
it ain't tax exempt (ideally I would want pre-72 as this will be a luxury)
fuel economy on this one will be about 22mpg (or thereabouts I am guessing?)
I don't mind buying a cheap(er) knackered one that I can restore in the way I want it (sympathetically) and in the colour I want... and then I will know that I haven't spent £7k on polyfilla!

ps. that's a lovely looking van you have there vaughn

Toph that van is almost perfect, auto box is a real let down although it'd be prety easy to drop a 5speed manual in there.

Guy, yeah that seems a little steep to be honest.

I don't know anything about p1ss stains on the seats, but I used to have problems with front seat passengers in T25s crapping themselves:

and just in case you're still not convinced, video here

Shame VW are obsoleting so many of the parts, as to make keeping a Syncro T25 and using it utter madness.  Thankfully the Government closed a large proportion of the green lanes in the UK at the same time, making a tough decision a lot easier for me.

Screw the scene - if you're buying a camper buy it to get away - the T25 fills that need, not to show how cool you are (apparently what bays and splitties are for) - that's for scene victims.

Before doing anything - go drive a bay and a T25 - that should make your mind up.  If you're still struggling, think about how much extra crash protection a T25 has (a lot). Let's pre-empt this video being waved about by trying to remember it was at quite high speed, with a tonne of cargo in the back.  Real life is more like this or this.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Long gone - sold to Roger The twit on BY - I should have held on to it (especially in light of the purchaser), but I had The Fear on me about parts availability and didn't fancy being had over a barrel by Devon's most prominent vendor of dog hair, rust and 'quality' T25 Syncro parts.

Got this Syncro (and the Golf Syncro and the Passat 4Mo) instead:

Which is very different and more 'in tune with the times'.

Still miss the Subara-Caravelle though.

You sure do have a thing for 4WD, ha ha.

I'm lucky that my neighbour has a battered C reg twin slider panel as his work van. He's had it 11 years and knows his stuff with it so he helps me when I get stuck with mine. His is his work van but all the tools get tipped out and a RnR bed goes in for shows. He's quite a jack the lad and show whore for a 60 year old odd job man!
