have you tried the Haynes manuals for the Golf/GTI? Reasonably priced as well.
It's shyte - typical Haynes crap, often omitting some important points, and blatantly instructing to use petroleum based copper grease on rubber brake components.
Try this linky for official factory manuals - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=54324
TT thanks for the link, and pardon my ignorance, but how do you download these, its all in a foreign language to me and I cant find where to download the manuals on brakes?
Yup, as SteveP states, right click > save target as. Save it to a convenient folder on your hard disk, then once youv'e downloaded them, they are there to stay, even if the host site goes down - and we all know that can happen, don't we <cough> jv <cough>

Tried to remove the rear disks yesterday, no luck and gave up and painted them in place. Looks better than it did when it was rusty.
As well as removing the sliding part of the caliper (which contains the piston), you also need to remove the caliper carrier from the hub carrier, before removing the disc. This is standard practice for virtually all disc brakes with sliding calipers. When you do remove the carrier, it is very important to clean up the bolt threads with a wire brush, AND use a thread locking compound, such as PermaBond A130 or Loctite 2701. A wee dab on the sliding pin bolts is also good practice.
Going to try take off the fronts if I can find a guide.
