I did try plug a iphone in to it and it did charge it but not sure if it will work any better than a normal ipod... which by the way is a total pile of cack!

Mine has been sat in the slot for about 6months now not getting any use.. so when i tried to use it the other day, and find that it has actually killed my ipod i was not happy.  Dont waste your money on 1!!

Cheers for the info R32.

The battery on my iPhone isnt great, so I thought rather than have a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter it'd be neater to retro-fit an armrest which my car turned up without even though one was ordered, and run the ipod lead into there....

Decisions, decisions  :undecided:

R32, I think we are talking about different iPod adapters, I presume you are referring to the standard VW pile of sh!t one with the playlist access only?

The new VW OEM MDI version from Kufatec is for the newer generation RCD310 & 510 + RNS510 (all touchscreen headunits) and I understand does work with the iphone and allows direct track/album/artist access with song info on the screen.

Ahh i see.. I must have got that wrong then, as I was refering to the one without the touch screen options... mine is just the basic one. But it does charge the phone none the less.

Steve, do you have the kufatec one? If so, is it worth the money?

I don't have it but if I was in the market for an iPod adapter then this would be my choice. I like the way it integrates into the arm and the touchscreen.

I can't see me using it enough given I have a load of SD cards and the 18GB space on my RNS-510 Hard Drive.

The only negative have just read on Vwnavi.com is it can be a bit slow going between pages of track and album lists.

Has anyone got any contact details for stuVRS? Ive tried to find a PM or email btn on this forum but there does seem to be one.

Has everyone fitted these units themselves? Ive noticed Steve, you said you had done yours yourself. CocoPops did you fit yours?

Dan

I fitted my bluetooth kit which was supplied by Stu.  If you're confident in removing some of the interior trim and stereo then you should be ok.  Stu's guide is very good and easy to follow.  All done in a couple of hours.  Had it coded for free while the car was with VW for some warranty work.

I just need to find a cheap RCD510 now!

As far as i recall, the factory fit iPod which is fitted in the centre armrest will not close properly with the iPhone or similar sized iPod devices such as the iPod Touch. I have the iPod nano (only got a little one ) and it's OK with that, but anything bigger and the arm rest cannot be fully closed. If the Kufatec setup is the same as the factory fit, you are also likely to have this problem.

Someone on this forum recommended a cable (called cablejive) as an extension cable, which can fit into the ipod adapter in the armrest - the cable allows you to control the iphone, charge it and it lays down in the armrest so you can close the lid.  Will be ordering this today so will see what it's like.
