We'll i'd just like to know if TSR have sorted there act out. I know it changed ownership, then i heard it was closed down, no one really know what was going on and now i see they are still up & running.

I read a post on the net Tue Feb 07, 2006

This is a warning to anyone who is considering using them !
I had a fully built 9A of them , fitted it , run everything in properly and 1500 miles down the line i had the worst knocking you have heard ,

Basically i removed the sump and found that the shell on No3 had fallen to bits , my oil looked like glitter and there were even large pieces of the shell in the bottom of my sump.

Between myself and two friends they have f**ked up 4 engines , for the following cases of bad workmanship:
with several people say they've had crap or sh*t work by them.

Then i read this on here August 30, 2007

Were sold by founder, went pop, was resurrected.

Old VW tuning shop trade names don't die, they just get recycled - it's a brand with some value to it.

Unless I'm mistaken, the one of the guys who was part of TSR originally now trades here.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Thanks for the link saved to favorites.

and what values would these be ?

My intentions are "if TSR are still recommended" to go down the Bore & build route, as they are the only company i'v seen that offer what i'm looking for, but since hereing good & bad things i can't make up my mind wearth i shoud spend my ££££ with them to acheve what i want or just keep my money and sepend it on a Jap motor and get some fun out of it the easy way.

Not sure what they are like now but did speak to them about a susp. kit for my mk3 and they did not seem that interested.

Just for info, Tim sold out to a guy called Neil Corner, then it went bust and the local s/h car dealer near him purchased the remains and put his son in charge, grant motorsport I don't think ever had anything to do with them.

Not sure if I would use them these days my local main VW dealer is cheaper labour rate for servicing and repairs and I let them look after mine or do it myself.

Reference that engine letting go, did they run it in correctly as they need about 1k to bed in and settle down, it might be they are use cheaper bearings now, back in my day it was all karl schmidt bearings / pistons etc.

Hope this helps.

TBH i don't really know if he ran the engine in properly, but from what i read he says he did.

As for the bearings, ive just had a quick look on the TSR web sight and is say they use KS bearings/pistons, so maybe the guy was a bit to trigger happy and couldn't what to give his engine what for .

Is there an alternative tuner to TSR who can provide me with the same tuning goodys

ABF is the engine code of the 2.0 16v lump found in the mk3 Golf, Seat Toledo and Ibiza and probably a couple more cars, passat maybe?
