Yep!

i think it comes down to one of those things! iv just had a second look tonight and the wire to the crank sensor is cracked!! so hopfully pick one up from GSF tomorrow and as iv done almost everything else on the list and VAG com says its the crank sensor i have visions of it coming to life!!!

once you get the oil filter off is it an easy swap?

Yeah it didn't take long at all, apparently with the right tools and uber patience it can be done with the front engine mount / starter motor bracket in place but i found it a lot easier just to whip it off whilst supporting the sump with a jack.
Just be careful to clean the old sender and surrounding area of the block as you dont want to ruin the allen socket / thread or knock any crap inside your engine. It's a doddle, seriously.

just to back up any similar issues,

i was suffering the usual issues, changed and cleaned the lot! whipped i new crankshaft sensor in and all good! still have a bit of a wobbly idle but its not cutting out! that was 4000 miles ago!

think i paid £60 for the sensor and volksmania nr bath kindly fitted it for 20 notes! bargain!

for some reason it seems this problem only effects P reg gti's, i persume it must be the AGG engines where all fitted with this sensor which is a weak point?

ok, after making a tit of myself on another thread thanks to mobile internet, would that list be a reasonable one for a 2e engine ('93 8v gti) also, i guess so but im at that stage of losing hope when ya spend hours pissing around with the un-greatful sod and it still doesn't work, lol.

Sorry To ressurect this! One year of happy motoring later shes died again! im just struggling to remember.

Vag com is reporting Camshaft Position Sensor (Hall) G40 out of range - intermittent.

Is this the sensor behind the oil filter I changed last year or is this a different one?!?!

Cheers guys :-)
