NewGolf - got a response from my mate in Saudi.

In summary, he has the SLK 350 and loves it, but..... His summary comments are as follows:

"The SLK.  Mine has a lot of extras - air scarf, heated seats, sports suspension, phone kit, Sat Nav, CD changer, speed Auto box, leather, metallic paint and a couple of bits and pieces. A fantastic car but Merc customer care is sh!tE! However, I'm told BMW is no better.  Merc have too many models with little commonality so their staff are maxed out and their mechanics pissed off. The sales people keep bringing out new models/mods which the dealerships can't keep abreast of. Merc UK seem to forget their customers pay their wages - they are PITIFUL. As a car though, it is great but I'd happliy go back to Jaguar if they produced anything like it".

Hmmm..... a common thread here about dealers

Today, I read a back to back road test in Autocar (last week July 2008) between the SLK 280 and the Audi TT Roadster. TT kicked it's arse and is rated as the much better car. The Merc's 7G Tiptronic gets a poor rating as well as does it's handling. Fine for a tourer but not a sports coupe.

At the end of the day though, it's your money and you need to decide what your needs are and what floats your boat...................

Either way, nice situation to be in :smug:

....I'm always amazed how Porsche continues to evolve the car without destroying the original basic appearance. Every single model is instantly recognisable as 911 derived.

The 911 is truly a great car, and in current 997 form not a lot can touch it....however......It is widely recognised that the Cayman is a more accomplished, better handling and more balanced car (obviously not having to contend with the engine at the rear makes life a lot easier).

The thing to do would be to: Buy a Cayman / Cayman S, send it to RUF in Germany and get them to put a 997 Turbo engine in it.....job done! Apparently the salesman who we deal with at Porsche has said a lot of his customers have done this and the results have been amazing.

IMO I don't really like the Cayman styling, each to their own though!

i have just been and had a look at 2 gtr nissans one in black and one grey and as good as they are  and as cheap as they are you are still left with a nissan and dont get me wrong i would have one but i would end up buying a porsche as i am into aircooled stuff big time and am into the haritage side aswell.
