Dent On Bonnet
« on: 01 August 2008, 12:42 »
Hi,

I have a dent from a huge stone on my bonnet which has actually gone down to the steel. Any advice on how to get this fixed?

I spoke to chips away and they advised that they would NOT be able to get the colour to match, due to this you will easily be able to tell its had a repair!!

Should I look at a new bonnet, if so how much should I be looking at?

I had a dent & crease in my door from a car park on another car that I had, had this repaired from a mobile guy and you couldnt tell it had been done! Although having said that I guess it does depend on the colour of your car as some colours are more difficult to match! From what I rememeber my repair cost about £100ish

If you have had a couple of opinions on the dent then maybe worth while looking at replacing the bonnet, can either check ebay for one in the same colour or go down the new bonnet route as I imagine if you brought a second hand bonnet in a different colour by the time the bodyshop have messed around with it would of been as cheap to get a new one sprayed! See link below for prices on a new bonnet, people there are really helpful!

The price from them is £85.96 but maybe worth while checking prices with VW main dealers as some things are not as expensive as you may think, always ask for trade discount with them if possible can save you on average 5%

I have the very same problem. Paintless repair is not possible due to the location of the small dent which is just above the central cross member :(

A proper repair job would see the whole bonnet painted and no doubt the wings etc to match...but if I were selling the car it could look like a whole front end respray...and if I was trying to hide something!

Didnt realise that a whole bonnet was as cheap  , its maybe an idea right enough, provided that the paint shop can effectively match my tornado red...(notoriously difficult I gather).

Or I just live with it and put up with the imperfection?

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Hmmmm red can be really hard to match but a good body shop should be able to do it! Although I image they would still probably feather the paint into the wings maybe so it didnt look so obvious, I could be wrong though!

I agree with hurdy get a carbon fibre bonnet they look great against the red aswell!

Just seen this from a company in Taiwan they reckon $200 - $250 US Dollars for a carbon fibre bonnet, can that be right????? Thats about £125  thats got to be the buy of the century if it is

Had my pearlescent black bonnet repainted under warranty after nearly 2 years - perfect colour match. Just need the whole car detailed and corrected to get rid of the inevitable swirls/scratches over the rest of the paintwork now :smug:

Went to a local paintshop yesterday...the guys reckon that to do the job properly they want to do a total respray of the bonnet at partial respray of the wings and a re-lacquer of the wings to ensure that it all matches in.

I am sure it will be a good job, however I am thinking £250 for a small ding in the bonnet! Also refer back to my previous comments that for any future buyer they may get suspicious about the fact that to all intents, the car has had a front end respray....

Don't know what to do, I would like it fixed but £250 for a ding! ffs.

can I suggest you get some high resolution documentary photos before any respray. This way you can show any future buyer why you had to have the bonnet resprayed.

Without traction power is nothing!
