stuttering 8v

ive got a problem with my j plate 8v digi. When accelerating in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd, it stutters like porky pig if i give it anything less than half throttle. It idles fine, most of the time, but ive got to give it plenty of right foot when pulling away from lights (not always a bad thing) or else it tries to die on me. At motorway speeds the exhaust note sounds as if its pulsing (if you know what i mean) slightly. She sounds louder and seems faster tho'. Does anyone have any ideas?
no scrapy jokes

yeah i would say timing, or knackered injectors, or most likely is an airleak in the intake system somewhere start by checking the pleated hose and gaskets vacuum lines etc
