I have a similar application on my N95 8gb called GTx which does much the same, again uses the accelorometer and GPS to make all the calculations and is suprisingly accurate !!

Gareth

Any ideas if there are any cheaper alternatives for the Nokias?

I just put the iphone in the centre cup holders (next to the handbrake) and layed it flat, facing forwards.  Have you given it a go yet?
