I was at Arnold Clark in Glasgow yesterday afternoon, they had 2 .:R32s on their compound...that is unusual in itself, but the place was also noticeably deserted...its a big place and at 3pm on a Saturday I was the ONLY customer in the place!

I love my GTi, but actually I would love an R32, if the prices come down even more I may eventually consider one...perhaps its mad given the driving I do...but the Gti isn't exactly cheap to run either now is it? In for a penny e.t.c.

The blue colour is superb, ... wonder how much I could pick a dsg, leather, sat nav 07 for,,....hmmmmm

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

lol...yes I officially have no golf clubs at all....actually I got rid of them when I got rid of my company car (Toyota bland) for a Mini Cooper S  decided to keep the handle when I moved onto the GTI

So..let me get this right the whole market is collapsing due to the fact that people are scared/ don't want to pay the new ridiculous road tax. This and the fact that the price of petrol is crippling them financially is pushing the used prices down?

Tesco 99 dropped  7p per litre in my local filling station recently and whilst the Road Tax hike is pathetic I agree if you cut out one capucchino/ lattes per week  you will more than pay for it!

Still the impact is real, you can see that on pistonheads....so if there actually ARE any R32 drivers who want a swap (seriously) then drop me a PM.

For a few split seconds I considered one, local dealer has a beautiful steel grey one with about 23k miles for around 20k.  Fully loaded.  On PCP it was noticably cheaper than a GTI, presumable due to stronger residuals?  The road tax, insurance, servicing and fuel costs are the problems.  Very tempting though, my g/f fell in love with it so that didn't help either, usually she tries to keep me sensible....

I hope i am not speaking for others here.. but the chances of me getting owning a Gti after a R32 are quite slim. tbh honest if it wasnt for fuel prices then i really couldnt see myself driving another car for the next few atleast.. it really does tick all the boxes!!

The loud pedal is the only problem.. its addictive! Do not underestimate how much you will want to press it

....Soon after the Mk5 R32 was launched I seriously considered swopping my then unmodified (except Millteks) GTI. Previously to test driving the Mk5 GTI I had been after a Mk4 R32. My dealer lent me their R32 demo car and I drove it back-to-back with mine on the same varied route. I emptied the tank and continually found myself in license losing territory just listening to what was only a standard R32 exhaust. I've since driven several other Mk5 .:R's, some highly modified and all with Millteks. I LOVE that V6 sound!! In fact I love it so much that I'm currently recording a song which starts off with 5 Milltek'd R32's each starting their engines one by one! I'll be posting it on my MySpace music page in due course.

So true!! You will want to press that V6 soundtrack pedal! If not, you can't be a true performance car enthusiast imo.

Btw, I never get more than 29 mpg out of my GTI but enjoy every mile.

Im sure you can get this car for just over 20k

I don't think £20k would be a problem either Steve, what was an issue was the measly £12.5k offered for mine!!!

Dealers do take the piddle when it comes to trade in prices. private is the only way to get full value for your car... its just a shame that people are often too lazy to do this (no offence) but when usually packaged together with a new car we often forget or overlook what our cars are really worth.

RR... i look forward to hearing that! And your not wrong about licence loosing territory.. im am now just 3pts away from loosing my licence

RRP would have been around £17.7 basic and a couple of £k for options.  Fortunately I didn't pay that but many do.
