So after a 3 month search for the perfect GTI, i finally purchased on 07 plate Tornado Red GTI with the following options from a dealer near me:

DSG
Bi Xenon headlights
Multifunction steering wheel with paddleshift
Sunroof
Centre armrest with 6 disc CD changer
Cruise control
Luxury pack
Smoker pack (not used)
Storage pack
Parking sensors
Electrically operated drivers seat
18inch Monza II's

...and after 24 hours noticed the front door out of line, so I went to another VW garage near work, and asked them to have a look at it.

Outcome (after less than 5 minutes looking at the car) was that both drivers side doors, both wings, bonnet, roof and front bumper had been sprayed, but not to VW standards, therefore voiding paintwork warranty. Even slightly differnt red when you looked closely.

Even worse was 3 of the alloys were scuffed, and suffering white worming, again scuffs voiding warranty cover for wheels.

I was not happy to say the least. Should have looked more closely at the car before delivery, but i was told if there were any issues with the car they would be rectified before I picked it up. Lesson learnt there, not to trust salesmen.

What happened to the multipoint check???

Took it back and now driving a courtesy car (08 GT Sport) while they try and find me a replacement, of similar spec age and mileage. Can't see them finding that in a hurry.

Anyone had any similar issues with dealers, and did it lead to a positive outcome?

I would not get another car from that dealer its fare to say they must have known about the re-spray and of course its there job to sell them but if they couldn't be arsed to fix the car up properly before re-sale then that tells its own story, dont give them a second chance.

Mate, I once had the same problem. I bought a golf GTI turbo from a main dealer in Doncaster. On the initial test drive I noticed the drivers door rattling. The salesman told me it would be adjusted as they were heavy doors(3 door version) before I picked it up. It was still rattling after I bought it, so I took it to an independant garage who took one look and told me it was full of filler and the back panel had also been resprayed! Not a happy bunny! I had specifically asked the dealer about any paintwork/accident damage, which they denied it ever had.
I got in touch with citizens advice and took the car back to the dealers along with a letter of rejection and left the car there. The dealer agreed to source another car under the 30 day exchange policy, but they ended up messing me around and wanted me to have the car back.
In the end, I contacted Doncaster trading standards who gave the dealer a proper roasting and I got all my money back within the hour! The moral of the story is trust no one!

My advice is, keep a diary of all events etc and contact citizens adivce/trading standards. Don't let the dealer take the P***.
Life is not a rehearsal, live it.

Get your money back immediately and walk from this dealer

Report them to VW UK and also write to the motoring press - What Car or similar.

Man, so sorry that your dream car turned out to be such a lemon. I'm sure there are good ones out there.

I would echo previous comments and just walk away. If this particular dealer is willing to sell you a crash damaged car and not fully diclose this fact to you then they cannot be trusted.

Please name and shame the dealership so that others can avoid them.

Thanks for your comments. I'm gonna hold out for a week or two in the hope that they stump up for a better car, if not I'll get me cash back.

It was Listers VW in Worcester that sold me the car, they can't give me an explanation about how it wasn't picked up, just very apologetic. Giving them the benefit of the doubt at the minute as I tend to want to trust people.

Have heard about others having issues with "Listers" though can't recall which (apparently there are a few).

Sorry but I'll say this again - you need tell VW UK about this dealer NOW.

Shocking. It's the only way to highlight shoddy practice and force the dealers to raise their standards. We all complain about them so it's a no brainer.

They'll no doubt sell the car on to some other schmuck and so it goes on. What if you kept the car and they went bust. VW wouldn't give you a second look.

Trading standards would, and should, have a field day with this.
