NOS..1/4 mile drug!
« on: 25 May 2008, 13:27 »
Thought I'd look into the price of fitting NOS. Turns out it retails around £1,100 fitted for up to a 100bhp progressive shot. Could be worth a punt for honours on the 1/4 mile, but does anyone have experience of using it?

Anyone have any thoughts?

4** bhp sounds good, but would the engine take it?

Used it in a mk1 Escort.

Useless in first and you need to program a progressive shot from about half way through the Rev range in second, taking into account when the car comes on boost and drop the NOS off again or you will spin the wheels up in second. 3rd is full shot but you're at the end of your run.

Its very difficult to setup unless you are doing run after run or have someone that has the data. Plus you need some very sticky rubber.

You best bet is to speak to James @ JBS - they had this on the old Octavia once.  Progressive is what you would want and probably on 50bhp shop max - 100bhp would put some extra strain on things!

Heard this name come up a bit in the past ... http://www.noswizard.com/

have you considered that your dsg box probably won't cope with the extra hp without modified clutches?

Hurdy, you are bonkers toying with this idea, 400hp, and quite possibly getting to the relms of a blown engine and gearbox in a £19k car!! with No warranty!!!, your mad, but if you wanna risk it, tis up to you. I still think your bonkers now doing all these mods etc,  but i doubt whether you'd have ANY warranty from vw if the worst happened.
Fair enough do it to an old banger and if it goes pop, then theres no hardship, but on a New expensive motor?? you need to stop and think my old mate.

Just Think Carefully of what your doing and possible consequences to your pocket, and pride aswell

Just sell the GTI and buy an RS4, 420HP & 4WD and if you aren't happy with that, fit a Turbo or 2?
