  • JUST TOOK AN IQ TEST, THE RESULTS WERE NEGATIVE!
Hi, hope you guys may be able to help,

I have just had a gti rear valence painted in tornado red, When I dropped it off at the painters I told him the code was LY3D but when I picked it up he said he had painted it in LY3D v1 (roman numerals for 6). He said cars later than 1996 had this at the end of the paint code. Is this right as now I have fitted it looks too orange?

Will have to take it back on Sat just wanted to check he was not right. thanks

Red has always been hard to match,  the worse time to look is under orangey street lights.

I dont know about the paint code but if it turns out to be wrong and he didnt paint to your code then I would get him to re-do it.

As its the bottom of the bumper make sure the road reflection doesnt effect your judgement

As i recently found out, there are many different versions to each paint code.  For my diamond black, under the same code there were no less than 20 different versions.  They term them, more blue, more red, more blue, darker, lighter etc etc.  They all look very similar  but my rear valance is not the perfect match so my painter is doing it again.  He has got palletes from another company as they all looked a bit too light for my car, and he has said there is a diamond black which is darker than the ones he has so is spraying a tester so i can go down and compare.  I thought diamond black was diamond black, how wrong was i lol

Paint code is in the boot under the false floor on a sticker. Thats the only one you should use.
