Tailgate and doors not shutting properly, practically have to slam them shut or they don't shut properly, unlike the MkIV/Leon..

Candy White Ed30 3dr DSG, Nav, Bi-Xenons, Armrest, MFSW...

The rattly diesel-type sound on start-up.

The water running off the tailgate after I've washed, dried and polished the car and then open the bootlid.

The way the water trickles down the side of the car from the bottom corner of the rear side windows, again after washing/drying/polishing.  This affects three door models only and I had the same problem on my Mk 4.  I have to stuff a folded piece of kitchen roll in the corner to stop trickles, but as soon as I remove it (soaking wet) it trickles again! I even use Bounty, not some Tesco Value rubbish that doesn't absorb anything!

The flimsy feel of the knob to adjust/heat the wing mirrors.  I keep thinking it's going to snap off every time I turn it on a frosty morning to clear the mirrors.

The way the fuel cap doesn't sit on the flap very well and always falls off whilst I'm refuelling.  One day it's going to scratch the car.  It used to sit so much tighter on the Mk 4 fuel flap and felt more secure.

The  front cupholders are a bit naff.  With a full bottle of Coke/water etc. it is a bit top-heavy and the cupholder doesn't grip the bottle enough and it topples over when you go round a corner.  Again, I prefer the design of the Mk 4 dash cupholders.

The fact that you can't access your drink easily with the armrest slid forward.

Nor the handbrake.

The Edition 30 badge on the back of the car looks too much like a Ford TDCi badge.

Not being able to use the 12v socket with the ignition off.  Sometimes I need to charge my phone and used to leave it in the car at times to charge but now I can't.

I think the tilt/slide design of the front seats is pretty poor.  I have to explain to passengers to tilt-slide-slide-tilt otherwise they don't go back to the original position!

Golfgirl you have good attention to detail, I agree with every comment you made there. As for the cupholders in the dash, I have a MK4 as my daily driver, and me and a friend always use that car when we meet up for lunch as we can put our diet cokes in them. In the MK5 they keep falling over and dont sit right.

VW should listen to people like us, we are enthusiatic about our cars and know more than those boffins!!

I can on MY55!
I think VW did away with a few things to cut costs on the newer GTI's

this should get better as the rubbers soften, if not the latches can be adjusted to allow easier closing

the seats not returning to original position.

Seatbelt chime because my missus takes ages to get her seatbelt on. (well halfway down my road)

And my worst hate..........the fact that everytime I wash it, the wing mirrors continue to drip water onto the side of the car for hours. I'm usually greeted the next morning with drips down my doors and if not, the sides get covered once I pass 30mph

My 12v is also on with the ignition off, I often charge my phone in the boot when I go to the gym, very useful :-)

Oh and on the subject of the 12v socket which I forgot to put in my first post....

The flap that covers the socket in the front console opens the wrong way.  It should lift up front to back, not back to front because it makes it difficult to plug things in the way it opens now!

Got to be the dripping water rom the wing mirrors! God thats annoying!
Also what about the creaking centre airvent(top of dashboard) unless thats only mine, although my other two mkvs did it so it must b an issue.
And theres no doubt about it if you havent got sat nav the standard radio unit looks absolutely crap!! VW could have at least make it look a bit more upmarket perhaps like ford st (sony) or audi (bose).

Apart from that its the best car dynamically i have ever owned and a joy to live daily.  Until i get anRS4 that is!!!!
