Buying a gti pirelli?
« on: 21 May 2008, 10:59 »
Having tried several dealers now I'm yet to find one to offer any discount whatsoever due to how new the model is. This has left me torn between going for an ed 30 from somewhere like motor point for nearly £3000 less (I know they are imports) or just throwing down the full amount. I am conscious of depreciation with the model replacement and sciroco however.

Is it crazy to pay the full ammount now with discounts being offered on the standard gti and ed 30 or does anyone have any further suggestions or experience for getting a discount on the pirelli?? I don't know whether I shuld just be patient and hold out for a discount!

i wouldnt pay full whack for one,, especially with a new model on the way, not that long ago the dealers around me had loads of new ED30 on 08 plates, perhaps still worth a look around for an ed30 imo

If you can find a Ed30 then I woudl opt for that, import or not - just make sure its FULL uk spec with climate etc.  Obviously it will be worth slightly less when it comes to selling but you pay less initially.

There a few almost new one's about last time I checked

Effectively the Pirelli is exactly the same car as the Ed30 apart from the trim. Personally I prefer the Ed30 trim. The Pirelli is Volkswagen's excuse to keep the Ed30 in production without upsetting Ed30 customers, which they have already with the product over run on the model. Personally I would go for the discounted Ed30 as its the exact same car as the Pirelli and it is likely you will not lose as much money when it comes to resale time

I have to say I'm just not a fan of the tartan seats. Plus I prefer the wheels on the pirelli. I know many don't like the seats, wheels and stitching of the pirelli but I think it looks great. Think I'm edging towards the ed 30 though on price and the fact I'd have it for the summer!

Ordered a Pirelli at the beginning of May.

10% discount can be had (or thereabouts). You've just got to find the dealer willing to do the deal. My Pirelli was already on order by the dealer so expecting it June/July.

Personally, I would have just gone for another GTI had they not been prepared to discount the Pirelli but, it does have the following extras on it which have got to be worth something over the standard GTI (and I couldnt resist an extra 30bhp!)

You also get the following as standard over GTI

18" Pirellii Alloys (cost £465 on GTI)

Metallic/Pearl Paint as standard (£365)

Body Coloured Spoilers Front Rear and Side (£?)

Darkened Rear Light Clusters (£?)

Heated Front Sports Seats with height and lumbar adjustment (£?)

Tinted Rear Windows (£?)

Front Centre Arm Rest (£120)

I went for the Reflex Silver as I didnt really like the other colours. I suppose as the run out continues they will probably release more colours including the Sunflower yellow - thats my guess anyways!

If you like the Pirelli edition then go for it. If I remember rightly people were of the same mind when the edition 30 came out and now look....it is probably the more talked about version of the GTI on here. I think VW have made a bit of a boob with the colour of the stitching, but the rest is fine.
