Here's some pics on a different car : -

....Not dazzling and not chavvy in my opinion.

Cost to be confirmed but expected in the region of €200 / £160 excluding shipping. No electrical problems and can be connected to auto switch on with ignition or manually switch same as fogs+sidelights.

Hmmm the memories of one of those almost rolling outside the hostel  :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

The lights look great. But I saw a GTi the other day in town with built in lights that looked OEM.

He prob thought I was insane as I was waving at him on my bicycle to pull over. He kinda just went faster. Silly man.

Like these

I have replaced the standard sidelight bulb with an LED one (still road legal) so the DRL strip under the headlights is all LED now. I'll try and get some pics in the dark.

No No

They were in the bumper. Looked awesome. The places where the headlight washers come out (South Africa dont get them) had a strip of LED's in them but it looked so OEM with the Vortex bodykit.

....If your GTI/Ed30 has Xenons, you simply don't have the option of fitting the headlights with DRL's built in like Hurdy's and Komenda's (unless you are prepared to dump your expensive Xenons).

The LED strip alternatives look cool but would involve bodywork hacking in some form or another. But the round Hella LED's should fit our foglight openings perfectly. Hella UK have been useless and I had to bully them to give me a contact in the parent company in Germany - By contrst, he has been enormously helpful.

The light from LED units looks quite different from fogs and also the beam is different. These by Hella will function as fully approved DRL's, will look cool, and will look oem. I've had another email late this afternoon and I'm expecting to get a pair in the next few weeks and will report with pics. My VW dealer and/or affiliated bodyshop will fit them for me.

....LATEST :-

I've just been offered a 20% discount so cost is € 159.90 + € 14.90 shipping to UK.

If anyone is SERIOUSLY interested (i.e. extremely likely to buy), please PM me urgently and I'll see what I can do about getting you the same discount, but only PM me if you are serious - I don't take kindly to being mucked about and don't want to muck Hella about either. Thanx!

My understanding (in writing) from Hella themselves is that it's a simple installation without electrical complications. My VW dealer has just told me he can fit them in the same session as my forthcoming 50k Service (with new tyres and carbonfibre boot badge).

Whoopeeee!!!!

RedRobin... Do you know yet how you will switch these on without having your normal lights on at the same time. I have read on another forum about having the ability to turn off / on foglights as DRL's via VAG.com
I suppose the only other way would be to have them linked up via the ignition swicth, so as soon as you turn the key they would light up...
Whats your thoughts on this please....

There is an option in VAGCOM to have the Fogs/DRL's switched on with the ignition.

....The standard way (as in Hella's boxed instructions in English and German) is to connect so that these DRL's automatically switch on with the ignition. They also switch off automatically when you switch on your headlights. In some countries (Germany, I think) it's illegal to have DRL's and headlights both on at the same time. However, I'm sure my dealer can connect them up so that I could switch the DRL's on/off in exactly the same way as the fogs. But I wouldn't want to fall foul of the law while driving in Europe, so I think I'll stick to the default operation.

I know it's only my personal opinion but I think these round 'stealth'/oem-looking LED DRL's will look uber cooool on the GTI . What's the betting though that some folks will still call these round DRL's chavvy!

Btw, I'm expecting to recieve them early next week
