Hmm... Paint run/trim *Warranty* Issues? :(

Just noticed recently, my front near side may have been involved in some pre-dealer delivery repair work?

The arch lip underside, has a paint run/drop, as if its about to drip but obviously dried before it could and towards the front of my passenger door theres 1 spec sort of thing, like a bit of grit under the paint (had it last time when i had work done to my mini so i know its from a respray of some sort).

Now ive had the car (from new) for 4months and its done 3500 miles. I think that if i was to approach the dealer they would not honour any sort of repair (not sure i'd want them to either to be honest) as i could have obviously had something done to it myself given the time frame as far as they are concerned...

I know people and companies who do all sorts of repairs, detailling etc so i could easily have it sorted to a standard i know and trust but should i make the dealer aware and see what they say?

On another note, my drivers door trim strip has a sort of mark/gouge on it, like someones hit it with a screw driver and theres a bit of what seems to be a sticky back strip? poking out from the front behind it.

I failed to notice (check for) these things until recently so it'd be all too easy for the dealer to say no to any claim.  :embarassed:

Any suggestions?

you can have drips from the factory, but not very often, is the drip on metal ?

On another note, my drivers door trim strip has a sort of mark/gouge on it, like someones hit it with a screw driver and theres a but of what seems to be a sticky back strip? poking out from the front behind it.

This is something I've noticed the MKV Golf is very prone to, more so than any other car I've owned - it does my head in! Due to the shape/mould of the door strips (they have a very raised "hump"), they mark and chip all too easily if someone bumps them in carparks with their doors... grrr

Yeah its on the metal, a big one at that. I know vw put quite a heavy coat on their cars so i suppose its possible its a run from factory, just the presence of the grit/bobble underneath the paint on the door has me wondering  



Just above the big drip is a bobble/grit under paint sort of thing, its one of those that is on the door i couldnt get a pic showing it though

That was my first thought when i saw the mark (stone chip) however it is actually raised... Its not on the strip either, its actually in line with the run/mark on the arch on the door. Although i know what your saying, i rested mine against a fence... when i shut the door the edge of the strips paint decided to stick to the fence and was left with a big black area on it  just painted on some touch up paint and its sorted though

hmm, if you was closer to me i could get the paint gauge on it and check the paint for a respray, but that could have come from the factory looking at that picture

Well i did consider getting that but if my suspicions are correct then theres going to be more paint there than everywhere else anyways so wouldnt really prove when it was done etc. I know im being a bit anal about it but its one of those things if you know its there it bugs you!

trouble is to get it sorted would mean another repsray probably, im guessing the drip is paint and not lacquer ?, if the car was sprayed the panel would be thicker all over, or in various places where it was blown in, i would know if it had been painted, i still reckon thats a factory drip

also grit under the paint is also normal from the factory, is your car white ?

Yeah its paint as far as i can tell, i was thinking it could be wet sanded down or something then re-lacquered (hoping that its just excess paint and wouldnt leave primer/metal exposed). I know if the dealers bodyshop were to do it, god knows what state id get the car back (in all regards, not just the area of repair).

Yeah its white the same colour as yours  , although may not seem it as its needing a wash  . The grit thing i know would mean a respray to sort its the fact that at a lot of angles the drip/run is REALLY visible
