GTI Purchase
« on: 20 May 2008, 18:46 »
Evening everyone!

First post having been lurking in the background for far too long!

The time has finally come for me to take the plunge and I am now trying to track down my perfect GTI. So I thought I'd get some opinions from the good people of the forum!

I'm looking to get one that is less than 1 year old with average miles on it. I reckon I'll be going for a 3 door. Options wise I want the 18" Monza's and the arm rest, other than that there is nothing that I "must have" although I would quite like Xenon's and perhaps the highline computer. It has to be the interlagos interior, as having test drove one with leather and one with interlagos, I much preferred the cloth and thought it added to the character of the car.

As for the edition 30, I'm not overly keen on the red stitching, although I have spotted that one of the members on here has a black edition 30 with the black rockingham's on it and I would have that without a second thought!

First choice colour wise would be blue graphite and if I can't find one that fits the bill then it'll be steel grey. Hopefully I'll find a blue graphite GTI that does fit the bill as I think the colour is very understated and quite rare.

I'm hoping to get it from a VW dealer and possibly take up their finance, although I am in the process of getting hold of some independent quotes.

Basically guys and girls I'd just be interested in any advice you might have for what to look out for and any comments on my ideal spec.

I can't wait now and hopefully will get something in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers

I personally don't mind it that much, but my girlfriend was pretty unimpressed with it, so for a quieter life I'm happy to stick with the standard interlagos interior.

Not even bought it yet and already tempted by a trip to Awesome GTi for a bit of a remap!!

Yeah I know. VW's attempt to shift their stock of vienna leather before the MKVI no doubt!

I'm going for a nearly new one though so I'll be making sure I've got the interlagos.

I wasn't too keen on the ED30 interior from the brochures havin had leather in the last GTi, but it looks so much better in flesh and has really grown me.
If looking for the 18" monza's keep a look out for the whiteworm corrosion issue, and point it out if gettin from a dealer, its a warranty issue if no kerbing. Also look out for imports, these even turn up at main dealers.

Sounds like you are looking for my car

Its a relatively rare colour alright, but looks fantastic in my opinion when shined up in the sunshine. Complements the red details quite well too. 18" wheels are the absolute must have option, if I was to order again the only thing I'd change would be xenons  (though they're costly)

I've loads of other pics of it, those 2 probably show it off best though! It does get plenty of admiring glances, though that said I spend most of my spare time washing it
