only if you get a good straight one with not much rust. otherwise you'll wish you never did.

Thanks Russ,

I might have a look at one this weekend.
Any things to look out for when buying a 16v conversion?
Does the standard mk1 oil cooler and rad suffice for the job?

Thanks!

Surely the mk1 section would be the place to ask?

(i'd expect the mk2 oil cooler has been used though)

mk2 oil cooler isnt as good as the mk1 coolier. the mk1 has a little rad with it whereas the mk is only cooled by water.

I had a look @ a potential MK1 project... EEEK! Defo a money pitt, it has all the parts waiting to go in and stuff, but the interior is crap and loads of rust

Ive read up on a few guides on what to look for when buying a mk1, rust areas etc

I was wondering what to look for on a 16v conversion, to check if its a solid conversion job?

I saw a dude on racetrack in a mk1 16v keeping bumper to bumper with a 1.8t20v!
