What mileage to remap Edition 30 ??
« on: 20 May 2008, 00:20 »
My Ed30 has only done 1550 miles .... but I want more !   Common sense tells me it is not even run in and to leave it until a year old before remapping .... but I want to do it now ....

I've remapped / chipped every turbo I've had so know what to expect - but never done it on a car under 10K ....

What mileage have people remapped ?

I remapped mine at about 1k.... bought the bluefin module and said to myself no remapping until after 5k... didn't work lol. Then again had cat back and carbonio intake when it only had 500miles on it

in theory you can map from day one, just take it steady and run in how you usually would, low down the remap doesn't put any extra stresses on the engine IMO

....It doesn't matter if it's an Ed30 or an original GTI, you can remap after running in a good 1,500 miles but the good established custom tuners I spoke to all privately/unofficially recommended that 10k miles was much more sensible. It's up to you of course but I would let the engine settle and loosen up properly. It also helps if you aren't remapped if you have any warranty issues - Such engine issues are more likely to occur earlier in the engine's mileage.

There are also advantages to remapping after hardware engine performance mods such as exhaust and intake.

But I'm an older buck who has learnt how to take my time (particularly addressing any ladies lurking here  - Dinx?)

....Old enough to legally have sex

I don't know whether to say how old I am or to create a new thread as this is way off topic. However, quickly bringing it back on topic - I'm old enough to have my brain remapped.
