lowering a mk3 1.4

ok guys, I wanna lower my 1.4 97 mk3 by 35 mm with GMAX springs, is there anything I need to worry about, as the dude in the shop was saying that I need full shockeys to make sure the car can handle it!

if not, im off to buy then at 3.00 today as they are only ?102 for the springs!

probably best to buy new/uprated shocks too maybe?

I was told most cars can handle no more than 40mm before the standard shocks burst. dont hold me to that.

cheers! I just dont have the cash for the stuts, but I want to make sure its safe. how much would it be to fire them on later? and how much later could I leave it

I would recommend doing the shocks as well.
As to do the springs, its not really going to be any more labour to do the shocks as well.
why do the job twice? will cost you more in the long run.

a 1.4 probably needs more than 35mm to remove those arch gaps ... 40mm or 60mm are available at awesome GTI

raceland did me 4 -60mm drop mk2 16v springs for about ?70. dunno if the mk3 ones would be more expensive.

I lowered mine by 30mm's with Eibachs.  Their website says that they're designed to work with standard shocks, and I beleive that this is the case with many spring kits.

Mr 6 is right in saying that labour-wise it will be cheaper to do springs and shock together, but this is only really a saving if the shocks actually do need replacing.  Your car's not that old, so they might not need doing, but depends on how much mileage you've done.

its only at 78000 - and it looks clean under the arch - im orering them today - so going on your reccomendations ill get the springs.
