Spring plate........
« on: 18 May 2008, 22:59 »
Well since having my jamex suspension fitted a cuople of months ago ive had nothing but trouble...sorted out most of it but now having a problem with the plate that sits directly on top of the spring on the d/s/f.

It keeps wedging itself inside the 1st coil and causing a knocking noise, sure its not doing the spring any good either. How can i sort this..? Is it possible to get a bigger spring plate or is it just that the plate thats put on there is incorrectly placed..? its on a 96 vr if that helps.

from the sound of it i think the front springs are too big for the top plate.

You have been sold older model springs but you have a post 95 vehical with the smaller spring caps.  the pig tails on the spring are slightly bigger on the MK2/MK3 pre 95.

I have the same problem and i reset it a few times, its been fine for about 6 months now which is a supprise but there are three options

Caps from the dealer are £15.00 each (need to get the for a MK2) or they insist on giving you the smaller ones
Scap yard,  couple quid each.

Or you can fit lowering caps which are again... arround £15.00 each and lower the car another 10/15mm
10 golfs and counting!

As said youve got wrong springs...thats 65mm after 95 pigtails and 80mm before.... there's loads of lowering caps on ebay for cheap prices.
my old gti was a 01/95 and had early ones but my current 02/95 has later one's... they changed in 10/94 according to vw!!

In my case if i droped it another 10/15mm with the caps the car would be wedged on the tar mac as im only on 15s  So i had to leave it for now but its been ok.   but you wont pay much more for new ones from the deeler.

Well jacked up the car and used a screw driver to unwedge it again. So getting bigger spring caps will solve this but otherwise no adverse affects..?
