lost turbo on gt tdi?
« on: 17 May 2008, 19:22 »
Hi ive lost the turbo on the gt tdi. i can just hear it spinning up a tiny bit. and the induction pipe from intercooler to inlet was stone cold after a drive? which i assume means the turbo is not working at all?

Ive had a quick check cant find any leaks and all sensors seem to be in place.

anyone else had this and do you think this means a new turbo. cars done 117k so i suppose it could have just seezed up? theres no smoke from the exhaust which is always a tell tale sign. so im a bit lost with out taking things apart.?

mine wasn't boosting after changing head light bulbs, but my mate unplugged something when doing the bulbs.

I don't know what it is but worth researhing.

the chances are the car will have thrown up a fault code to say what's wrong with it
it sounds like its gone into limp mode - where the car puts out very little, if any boost to prevent any damage to itself
if you have access to vagcom or a fault code reader it should tell you straight away

put a new bulb in o/s/f a few weeks back for mot. what mk4 doesnt need a bulb some where
but dont think this is a cause, as it only happened yesterday.

yes that would make sence, a default saftey mode as i can still just hear turbo spinning, but there is no boost. will see if i can get a diagnostic.

thanks for the advise, i was a bit concerned as i didnt want to start pulling the car apart as its the wifes daily driver, and i dont fnacy her taking the cosworth to work for the next week
