need some help!

my 1.4 mk3 golf isn`t pumping oil around the engine the the oil light is flashing! there is no oil getting to the cam and when i take off the the oil filter and crank the engine over nothing comes out!
the light came on after starting cold this morning and my misses had the sence to turn it off
so waddo you reckon? oil pump, blockage?
thing is we need this car on the road as its our daily hack to work and without it we`re fooked.
any help would be great.

Hello,

If your red oil light is flashing and your not getting any oil upto the filter then it does sound like a pump issue.
Im sure that the pumps on these engines are driven by a chain, so that may be the problem? you need to remove the sump, check the oil pick up pipe filter is not blocked, if thats ok, then you will need to turn the engine over by hand using a spanner or ratchet on the crank pulley bolt, and check that the oil pump is being turned by the chain, if that is ok, I would say your pump has failed.

sorted it  :grin:
took the sump off and there was a plug from the oil pump galley floating around in the bottom of the sump.
so i`ve locktighted it back in to place and now i`ve got a fully operational golf again  :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin: :grin:
