is 8v fast???
« on: 26 April 2004, 00:23 »
Ive just finished driving my first car (its a 1.3 309 GLX) and have bought an 1988 3dr 8v GTI. Im 18 and i was just wondering how fast this car actually is compared to most of the average town cars. One of my mates has got a  Rover/MG 2litre turbo diesel will the golf be faster than that???

on the basis that its an mg rover car and not a pre mg rover (eg bmw rover) car, then i would bet its level pegging until 60.

at 60 - find a junction to your left and head down it very fast. at all cost - end the race.

modern diesels are not to be underestimated. underestimate at your cost.

mines quick ;)

its an 8v 89 digifant

only mod is a drilled air filter. the car has been well looked after, which can make a massive diffrence to performance. :D

I think a 8v will be quick enough, Its's going to be alot better than a 1.3 309

This is my first car & year of driving, but mine is a K-jet 8v with a road fast cam  ;D

This is fast enough for me at the mo
Cheap car
Cheap insurance ?431 full comp (?1000 less than a 1.6 focus for me!!!!)

It's a great car to drive, don't rag the balls off it or it will cost more to fix.

Is this right ? Is yours a GTi ? I'm still paying that after full NCB on a mk1 cab and I've been driving 15 1/2 years. Who's it with ?

Yep it's deffo a GTI,  I have a 84 mk2 k-jet GTI

I'm insured with AXA
Here are my reasons for cheap insurance

1. Im 27
2. It's kept in a garage overnight & I live in a very low insurance area.
3. As the car is so old it's only valued at ?1000

4.  Forgot to put, it has a Cobra Cat1 alarm (top of the range) With central locking added (windows go up when alarm is set & the rest  ;D )

This alarm & central locking brought the price down ?900!!!!

AXA were the only ones I found who knew what alarm I had installed, Tesco were naff!!

Nice one, still a good price to say you have only been driving a year. AXA might be worth a try on my renewal. That's a hell of a knock down on price for that alarm and central locking.  :)

It all depends on what you have driven. If u have a VR6 then its bound to feel slow to you. I have a jetta GTi 8v and compared to my 1.3cl polo its pretty good!
JETTA GTI. Lots of fun with room for the shopping...

That just about sums it up,
An 8v gti feels fast compared to a 1.3  :D
