cylinder head gasket
« on: 25 April 2004, 21:37 »
Hi there. I have got my car in VW at the moment with a blown head gasket. (mk216v). Well they told me that it should take approx 8 hrs. This was on a wed morning when i put it in. Well at 5pm on Fri they decided to tell me that the car wasnt finished. How happy was I? Ecstatic. So I went down to the VW place (Vindis of Cambridge if anyone is interested) and thought to my self they must have a courtesy car for me. NOT!! I had to spend ?36 on a return ticket home in M.Keynes. I spoke to the service manager and asked why it was taking so long, and he told me they had discovered another problem with the cooling system. I can understand that, but what I cant understand is the fact that they have had my car for 3 days to do a approx 8 hour job, which means they should have finished thurs or fri morning. Just out of intereest has anyone had a head gasket change done on a mk216v and how much did they pay?

Shouldn't take 8 hours in a garage unless the head needs skimming.
It took me a day and a bit to do the headgasket on my vr6, and that was outside my house  :D

I had a GTI8valve Full gasket replaced and oil stem valves too. By professional mechanic. It took about three and a half hours in total...
So shouldnt take three days!!!  :o
